Obituary of Larry Eugene Gilliam

Larry Eugene Gilliam passed away at his place of residence in Hollister, California on March 16, 2021 at the age of 80 years. Larry was born to Freda and Earl Gilliam November 18, 1940 in Wheatland Wyoming. Earl moved the family to San Bernardino, CA in 1948. Larry Graduated from Redlands High School in 1959. Married Linda Shillinglaw, September 21, 1961. Married for 54 years. He served in the Army from 1961-1964 stationed at Fort Lewis and lived in Tacoma. Larry went to work for Lockheed and ended up staying there for 37 years, starting in Southern California, transferring to Cape Canaveral in Florida in 1975, and onto Palo Alto in 1980, making Gilroy home. In 2002 Larry and Linda moved to Hollister to retire. Throughout his life Larry had many interests. In his youth he raced go carts, midgets and finally sprint cars. He had a pilot's license flying small aircraft and gliders. He had a passion for motorcycles and music. Early on, he learned to play the accordion, French Horn, and guitar. He played in a local country band in the middle 80's to early 90's named Country Comfort. In retirement, Larry enjoyed some spare time going on road trips with Family and friends on his Harley and building his roadster. Larry is survived by: his son Greg Gilliam of Gilroy; daughter Terri Allen of Hollister; grandson Mathew Allen of Hollister and grandson Alexander Gilliam of Gilroy; Nephew Mike Ball of Yucaipa,Ca ; and Cousin Jim Warrick of Hurricane, Utah. Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 23rd from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. **** Covid Rules will apply **** On Wednesday, March 24th, family and friends will meet at Calvary Cemetery, 1100 Hillcrest Road at 1:30 p.m.for a Graveside Service followed by full military honors.
