Obituary of Lupe Velasco Ortiz
Life-long San Benito County resident, Lupe Velasco Ortiz, passed away during the early morning hours on Saturday, March 7th, 2020 at the age of 87 years.
Lupe was a devout Catholic. She attended Sacred Heart and St. Benedict churches. She was very well known for working for the Rosati family at Penny-Wise Drugstore on San Benito Street for many years. Lupe devoted her life to serving others. She was a lifetime member of the San Juan Bautista VFW Auxiliary, a teacher’s aide for Amy Holland at Calaveras School and taught Catechism to children preparing for their First Holy Communion at Sacred Heart School. Lupe would often be found taking care of her nieces and nephews along with her 3 children. Later in life, she also took great care of her injured husband Paul who passed away in May of 2018.
Lupe is survived by her children David (Myrna), Gloria (Victor) and Sylvia (grand-dog Charlie); brothers Richard Velasco and Raymond Velasco; grandson Shawn Slater (Tracy); great-grandson Declan and great-granddaughter Kaylee of Windsor, Colorado.
God took her to a better place, Heaven, to be with the Lord, her husband Paul, her 4 sisters; and her parents Jesus and Guillermina Velasco.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 13th from 1:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with the recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
On Saturday, March 14th, family and friend will meet at Mission San Juan Bautista at 11:00 a.m. for a Mass of the Resurrection. Interment will follow at San Juan District Cemetery.
After the interment, a reception will be held at Casa Maria Restaurant, 600 1st Street, San Juan Bautista, CA 95045
