Obituary of Shirley Botelho Horn
Shirley Botelho Horn was born to Clara and John Botelho in Hollister, California, in 1934. She was born in a house on the property of her maternal grandparents’ apricot orchard. She passed away on December 27, 2018. She was a life-long resident of Hollister and attended Sacred Heart School and San Benito High School. After graduating high school, Shirley went to work at Hollister National Bank and was a member of the Junior Business Women.
She was a member of Sacred Heart/St. Benedict’s Churches. She worked in the office of Sacred Heart School in the 1970’s. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Mothers’ Club while her children attended school there. She was also involved with the Sunnyslope 4-H Club while her children were members, and was a member of YLI for over 50 years and was a member of the Chamber of Commerce for many years.
She was passionate about fitness and was a long-time member of Target Zone Gym and most recently Rovella’s Gym. Shirley and Jim were married for 52 years until Jim’s passing in 2008. They square danced as part of the Mission Mixers and were also long-time members of the Hollister Dance Club. Shirley and Jim liked to travel aboard cruise ships to different parts of the world with the Friends Forever Tours.
Shirley was very proud of her Portuguese heritage and attended the Hollister Portuguese Festa for many years always bringing home some homemade sweetbread from the auction.
Shirley was an avid baker, making a large assortment of cookies at Christmas, which she would give to friends and family.
Shirley is survived by her children Michael Horn of Tacoma, Washington, and Jill Martin of Dublin, California, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She will be missed everyday by her two beloved cats, Cindy and Zoey, and by her family and friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Joy Shoe.
On Wednesday, January 9th, 2019, family and friends will meet at St. Benedict Church at 11:00 a.m. for a Mass of the Resurrection. Inurnment will follow at St. Benedict Columbarium.
A reception will follow at Hollister Elks Lodge, 351 Astro Drive, Hollister (Hollister Airport)
