Obituary of William David Macfarlane

Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

William “Bill” Macfarlane was born on Christmas morning, December 25, 1928 in Cheyenne Wyoming and passed away peacefully at his home on November 11, 2018.  He was the only child of William B. Macfarlane and Lillie Mae (Shane).  Bill lived in Wyoming, graduating from Cody High School, before immediately enlisting in the US Navy during WWII in 1945.  After serving in the Navy, Bill returned to Wyoming to further his education at the University of Wyoming.  Before graduating, he was called back into service and served as a Pharmacist Mate aboard the aircraft carrier USS ESSEX in the Sea of Japan during the Korean conflict.  Once honorably discharged from the service, he returned to his studies and graduated with a BS Degree from the University of Wyoming.  Following his graduation, Bill and his parents soon moved to California where Bill met his wife Carol at Bank of America where they both worked.  They were married for 53 years before Carol’s passing.  During Bill’s 30 year career with the bank, together they lived in Gridley, Lindsay, Millbrae, San Jose, Santa Cruz, St. Thomas USVI, San Jose, and finally in Hollister, California where he resided for 34 years.  Bill had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed duck and pheasant hunting, boating, and especially fishing.  He and Carol loved to travel which took them all around Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, and to many other states in the US.   Bill was an active member in the Elks, Sirs, and a devoted member of the Catholic Church.

Bill is survived by his four sons, Michael (Stacey) Macfarlane, Thomas (Jill) Macfarlane, Joseph (Regina) Macfarlane, and James (Karen) Macfarlane and his nine grandchildren, Lindsay, Cole, Courtney, Haley, James Buck, Jacob, Jessica, Rachel, and Ryan, and five great-grandchildren Hudson, Jase, Cal, Annabelle, and Haylee.  Bill will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by his family, his many friends, and by the countless people whose lives he touched throughout his many years of life.
