Mitch Cox Avid hunter, fisherman, outdoorsman, friend to many and loved by all! Mitch passed away at his home in Hollister, California on January 24, 2016 of a heart attack at the age of 55. Mitch is survived by his father, Jim and stepmother, Marilyn Cox, his brother, Rod and his wife, Gretchen Cox, his sister, Jaime Coffman and husband, Tim Coffman, 1 niece and 2 nephews. Mitch was born in Spokane Washington on August 10, 1960. At an early age he was an avid fisherman. At age 15 he earned a commendation from George C. Wallace, then Governor of Alabama, for his extraordinary courage in preventing the drowning of a young fishing companion when they were thrown into icy waters of a creek when their boat capsized. Mitch graduated from Leland High School in San Jose, California. In the late seventies he joined the California Conservation Corps and was a Conservationist I with the CCCfor over 35 years. His work with the CCCincluded iTrany things like fire, flood and earthquake emergency assistance and chain saw training. He loved working with the young corps members and enjoyed sharing his learning and life experiences with them. In 1980 Mitch was delighted and honored to escort and assist Governor Jerry Brown in viewing the fire devastation at Lake Elsinore. Mitch loved to hunt and fish with his family and friends. From an early age he would be out on a river, lake or ocean trying to land "the big one". He landed a 135 pound marlin in Cabo San Lucas, a prized bull elk while hunting with friend, Chip Ernst, and was also "at home" ocean and lake fishing with his dad, Jim and brother, Rod. Mitch enjoyed teaching many family members, friends and co-workers gun safety and target shooting. As per his wishes, there will be no services and cremation is under the direction of Grunnagle- Ament-Nelson Funeral Home of Hollister, CA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. We have all lost one of "the good ones". He will be missed by all of us forever.
