After retirement, Delbert devoted his time to his two great passions, history and engines. With the help of his good friend, Peter Sonne, Don Pidd and the many volunteers of the San Benito County Historical Society, he was instrumental in turning a little used seasonal park into a year around jewel in San Benito County, the San Benito County Historical and Recreational Park. As President of the Historical Society, he guided the Historical Village at the Park into a showcase venue for visitors and residents of San Benito County and was thrilled when someone visited the Park, appreciated what they saw, and then became a member of the Historical Society to help support the Society’s efforts. However, he was most at peace when spending time reminiscing with his many friends at the Early Day Gas Engine & Tractor Association, Branch 3 events while displaying his antique hit and miss engines rebuilt with his loving hands. Delbert also enjoyed his yearly hunting trips with his “adopted son” Alex Orozco and good friend James Madison.
