Daniel McCarthy Jr.

Obituary of Daniel Joseph McCarthy Jr.

Daniel Joseph McCarthy Jr. was born June 22, 1940 in San Francisco, Ca.  Dan and twin sister Ann McCarthy Sullivan were the children of loving parents, Daniel Joseph McCarthy, Sr. and Margaret Catherine Smith McCarthy.

As a child Dan grew up in San Francisco, Watsonville, and San Bruno, California.  He attended St. Roberts Elementary School, Serra High School, and graduated from the University of San Francisco with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

He retired from Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream Company as their Franchise Director after 25 years.

Dan raised his family in Campbell, California.  He took great pride in his children, grandchildren and extended family.  Dan and wife Sharon met while working at Baskin-Robbins and have adored each other throughout their 36-year marriage.

Dan and Sharon had a beautiful blended family.  Sons:  Michael and wife Molly, James and wife Tamra.  Daughters:  Maureen McClintock and husband Michael, Caroline Corey and husband Scott, Terrisa Durrell, Susie Purington and husband Lanny.  They also considered Anne Allen and husband Mike Manolas their children.  Our unique family culture included Rose Allen, the mother of Dan’s children.  Together we are a loving family.

Dan was Papa to Courtney and Matt McClintock, Emma-Claire and Abby McCarthy, Riley and Megan Corey, and Iain McCarthy.  He was a step grandfather to Angela Purington, Heather Williams and husband Nick.  He was a great step-grandfather to Liam and Layla Williams.

Dan and Sharon loved to travel and did so for many years, most of the time with their travel buddies, Ann and Terry Sullivan (Dan’s twin sister and husband).

Dan and Sharon have been in Hollister for 20 years.  They met many of their current neighbors while choosing a lot prior to their homes being built.  Their block of families is a close-knit community that takes care of each other.  A few years after moving to Hollister, Dan and Sharon purchased the San Benito Expresso Coffee Shop and loved getting to know their customers. Dan and Sharon were members of the Hollister Lion’s Club and enjoyed supporting the Hollister community.
The rural setting, small town atmosphere, and friendly neighbors are the things they love about Hollister.

Dan was a kind, joyful, giving man with a sense of Irish humor that lit up a room.  He was a devoted San Francisco Giants fan and a season ticket holder to the San Francisco 49ers.  He had a passion for trains and built the railroad town of Danville in his own backyard.  A favorite pastime in his family is playing cards when they get together.  Black Jack and Showdown were played at the end of the evening and “chump change” was not allowed by Dan.

We will miss Dan dearly and cherish our memories of his laughter and Irish wit.
