Obituary of Violet M. Borges
Violet M. Borges passed away peacefully on March 3, 2024, at the age of 92. Born in Hollister on January 28, 1932, she was the eldest of three children born to Pete and Isabel Felice.
Violet attended local schools and was a graduate of Hollister High School, class of 1950. She married the love of her life, Arthur Borges in Hollister on February 3, 1951, they were married for 72 years until Arthur's passing in 2023. They were inseparable.
Violet and Arthur enjoyed many bus trips to Reno and Lake Tahoe to get their gambling fix. They also enjoyed square dancing and were members of the Mission Mixers Square Dance Club in San Juan Bautista.
Her family was her pride and joy. She and Authur often took the boys to many SF Giants games at Candlestick Park. She also derived much joy from their various trips to Disneyland.
She had a love for cooking and baking cakes, pies, and cookies. You could always count on her delicious treats for holidays and family gatherings. Violet was also very skilled at cake decorating.
Violet had a love for fitness her entire life. In later years, she enjoyed taking long walks around town. She also knitted and crocheted many afghans which became treasured gifts.
She was well known to locals as the crossing guard at 4th and College Streets. She ensured the safety of Hollister's youth from 1970-1990. She had a smile and a wave to all that drove by. Rain or shine parents could count on Violet to protect their children.
Violet is survived by her sons Bob, Bill, and Tim (Susie Costa) Borges, grandchildren Robert and Krista Borges, great-grandchildren Tarin and Kayden Borges, brother Robert Felice, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will take place in the Spring.
