Obituary of Jack James Rau Jr
Jack James Rau Jr., affectionately known as Jim, or “Jimmy Fizz Noodle” and “Genius Jim” left an indelible mark on the vibrant community of Hollister, California. Born in Salinas to Marjorie Collonan Rau and Jack James Rau, Jim's childhood was enriched by the love of his family. His siblings included Sue Rau Matiasevich, brother’s Michael Nicholls, Bill Nicholls, and Jan Rau. With his parents and sister Sue preceding him in passing, Jim's spirit now rests in the embrace of the Lord. Jim's legacy is carried on by his loving children Vanessa Rau Villafuerte, Jacob Rau, Stepdaughters; Nicole McAtamney, Christi Ferino, and many grandchildren. His presence will forever be missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless dear friends that he treasured dearly.
From a young age, Jim showed extraordinary athletic ability, excelling in baseball, Pop Warner, and achieving letterman status on the Baler High School football team. Following his time at San Benito High School, he followed his father's path and embarked on journeys to Hawaii and Mexico. For three years, he assisted his father in managing a feedlot enterprise on the picturesque Island of Oahu. Jim's family and adventurous spirit played a significant role in shaping his character, cultivating in him a unique talent for bringing people together, resolving conflicts, and possessing the ability to find positive solutions.
Upon returning to San Benito County, Jim embarked on a successful career in the fields of construction, real estate investment, and family business management. With his innate artistic nature and the refined craftsmanship he acquired over the years, he effortlessly gained a well-respected reputation among both his peers and the community. Jim dedicatedly handcrafted breathtaking homes that have become an integral part of Hollister's landscape, destined to shelter and nurture families for generations to come. However, his hard-working hands possessed a power that extended beyond their physical purpose; they embodied strength, integrity, and compassion.
Most importantly, it was his role as a devoted father and grandfather that his true essence shone. He consistently shared his wisdom and affection without hesitation, leaving a lasting impact on his loved ones. One of his most profound teachings was the importance of Christianity- Jim instilled in his family the values of faith and togetherness, which became foundational to their lives. Jim assumed the crucial roles of being the family's guiding light and their rock, imprinting values like respect, hard work, compassion, and wisdom into their hearts. He delighted in playfully tickling his children, until tears of laughter fell, and embarked on countless unforgettable family adventures. Remarkably, he always aligned his actions seamlessly with his deeply-held principles. Just as Psalms 23:1 eloquently expresses, "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want," Jim's actions truly reflected the profound message of this Scripture. He led a simple life, content with possessing only the bare necessities. In truth, Jim bestowed upon his children and grandchildren an inheritance that is- life giving and far more valuable than gold.
Despite Jim's physical absence, his essence and vibrant spirit continues to live on through those who were lucky enough to know him. May we remember his sense of adventure, uncanny humor, his role as a cherished father and devoted grandfather, exceptional craftsmanship, and his unmatched ability to share captivating stories. While we grieve his loss, we find comfort in knowing that his spirit will forever guide us. May Dad~Rau find eternal peace as he rests. A memorial service to honor Jim will be held on 8/19/ 2023, at 11 am at Christ Fellowship located at 2066 San Benito St., Hollister, CA 95023.
