Obituary of Richard Joseph Gularte

Richard Joseph (Dick) Gularte, age 80 from Hollister, CA died at home surrounded by his family after a long illness on the evening of December 6th, 2021. He was born in San Jose, CA on May 26, 1941, to Joe and Edith Gularte. Richard graduated from San Benito High School in 1959. Following his graduation he married his grammar school friend, who became his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Carolyn. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on March 24th,2021. He believed he was the luckiest man to have the most wonderful family, and his family loved him with all their hearts. He purchased his first gas station in 1961 at the age of 19, and later opened Dick Gularte Chevron on Prospect Avenue in Hollister. When he retired from Chevron, he then became a walnut farmer. He loved living on his walnut ranch, it was truly his happy place. He was also a longtime member of the Elks Lodge for over 50 years; enjoying many Tuesday night dinners with his lifelong friends. Another one of his favorite things to do was driving his coach throughout the country with his wife and good friends finding new places to see and making wonderful memories. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his sister Geraldine Coelho. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, daughters Debbie Poggi, and her husband Steve of Fresno CA; Judy Klauer, and her husband Kraig of Hollister, CA; his son Stephen Gularte, and his wife Elsie of Arvada, CO. His eight grandchildren; Nick (Miyo), Karson (Vanessa), Brooke (Kurtis), Kolton, Samantha (Michael), Joe, Jay, and Will. He also had eight great-grandchildren: Leo, Kaiya, Kade, Kasey, Tyler, Kolby, Micah and Shaylla. His brother, Ed Gularte, and his wife Vicki of Corral De Tierra, CA; His brother-in-law Don Coelho of Modesto, CA, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 14th from 08:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home, 870 San Benito Street, Hollister A Committal Service will follow at 12:00 noon at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, 1100 Hillcrest Road, Hollister, CA
