Obituary of Ofelia Amezcua Cortez

Ofelia “Lucila” Amezcua Cortez of Hollister, CA, passed away on February 25, 2021 at the age of 70. Lucila was born on July 1, 1950 to Leonardo and Maria Amezcua in Michoacán, Mexico. She attended Colegio Plancarte in Michoacán where she studied many courses. She arrived in California in 1965 where she lived the rest of her life, setting the roots of her family tree. She worked for Contadina and San Benito Foods for over 40 years and went on to bake and decorate cakes for the variety of celebrations within her community. Lucila showed love through her authentic cooking and her beautifully baked cakes. She enjoyed traveling, sharing experiences with family and friends. Strong, beautiful, elegant, and full of determination are only a few words to describe her. Her vibrant smile and contagious laughter are treasured memories to the many who love her dearly. Lucila’s strong faith in God included faith in his timing. She trusted God more than any circumstance that crossed her path. She lead with confidence, strength, and grace. Lucila is survived by her husband, Francisco Cortez. Her children: Sandra (Manuel), Victor (Esperanza), Frank (Liz) and Cristina (Nick). Her Grandchildren: Cynthia (Josh), Stephanie, Manuel, Michelle (John), Danielle, Denise, Nicholas, Nathaniel, Leonardo, Elyssa, Jennifer, Frankie, Andrew, Daniel, and Adam. Her great grandchildren: Joseph, Hailey, Devin, Hannah, Mariyah, Aaliyah, Kaelani, Eloise, and Abraham. Siblings: Teresa (Silverio), Socorro, Guadalupe, Casimiro, Enrique, Javier, Leonel, and Alberto. She is preceded in death by her mother, Maria Cervantes Amezcua, Father, Leonardo Amezcua Arreguin, Sisters: Estela, Margarita, Maria, Brothers: Mario and Ramon. The most wonderful gift that she leaves is the special part of her that now lives in each of us. We will carry her with us, until we meet again. Visitation will be held at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 from 11:00am -8:00pm with the recitation of the Rosary at 7:00pm A celebration of Lucila’s life will be held at 11:00am, on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Saint Benedicts Church. The burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
