Obituary of Margaret Eileen Collins
Margaret Eileen Collins passed away at her place of residence on February 23, 2021 in Hollister, California at the age of 79.
Margaret was born in Metfield, England. She immigrated to the United States with her parents, Robert and Gladys Gertrude Amis, at the age of 5. They settled in Hollister where she remained her entire life. She graduated from San Benito High School in 1959. After high school, Maggie worked at several jobs until her retirement in 2003 from the San Benito County Water District. Upon retirement, she volunteered at Pet Friends and Forgiving Paws Thrift Shop.
Maggie loved to garden and had quite the green thumb. She loved flowers and always said that you could never have enough flowers either in the garden or in a vase inside. She enjoyed her daily morning cup of English tea with her loyal dog Abbey by her side. Maggie loved spending time with family and friends, sharing stories with an occasional “short one” (cocktail, as she called them). She also loved traveling to the coast for walks on the beach.
Margaret is survived by her son Christopher Collins (Lidia), grandson Richard Martinez (Rebecca), great-grandson Anthony Martinez, all of Hollister, niece Karen Reyes (Jacob) of Salinas, niece Lisa Naranjo, nephews Todd Reyes of San Francisco and Justin Reyes of Sacramento, and her dear companion pets Abbey and Lilly.
She is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Gladys Gertrude Amis, sister Audrey Gomes, and niece Sharen Oliveira.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to her caregivers, Maria and Stephanie, and to VNA/Hospice. Arrangements will be private.
Those wishing to honor Margaret’s memory may make a donation to Pet Friends, the American Cancer Society, or VNA/Hospice.
