Ralph was the voice of critical thinking. I spent many lunch hrs with him. I would have some wild idea and he would say “it’s a process let it play out”. Critical thinking is what I learned from Ralph. Be in touch with reality. I sure do miss him even though he thought I was a shitty carpenter one of the last things I said to him was “give me a sign when u get to heaven make me a better carpenter “. He just shook his head.

Hi, my name is Candee Gastelum. I used to live in the little house behind Ralph's with my grandma Lupe, and my uncle Ernie when we moved into Hollister from San Diego. My grandmother introduced my sister, brother and I to a "very very nice man" as she would say and it was Ralph. He would let us run all over the place to play tag or hide and seek. He would let us tinker around his workshop and ask just a billion questions. What's this? How do you use that? And he was always explaining, never rushing us out of his shop. That house on Shore Rd. will always have a special place in our hearts. We met Ms. Sabbatini there, she'd always tell Ralph to give us a nickel, she was so sweet, and we had Ralph. We will never forget you Ralph. Rest in peace.

I sure miss my morning calls from you. You were right about me but I’m trying to be happy for you. I know you are in a better place and celebrating with the rest of the family. Love you and miss you.
