For those of you who don't know who I am Im Ruths Granddaughter Shawnte.
Growing up my Nana was always there for me. She always made me feel safe ready with open arms to hold me, to feed me, cloth me and sometimes when i needed it scold me.
Especially when Id try to climb through her window when she wasn't home. But she wouldn't be so mad if I told her i was just hungry.
When I was 8 years old my Nana made a decision that would save me from the life i was given at the time. My Nana knew I deserved better. I then went into the system.
For about 5 years even though we had very little contact I knew my Nana always wanted what was best for me.
Coming back around I cherished every moment we spent together. Through her last years before her dementia really set in she loved to go out on her town trips.
She liked to eat out but Jack in the Box was her favorite! An god forbid if Tata tried to rush her in the dollar store..... My nana got a kick out of her showes.....jerry jerry, Maury and of course her novales.
Being able to help provide for her this last 6 years on an off truly has been a blessing. To repay her for all the love and support shes given me. At her side I watched her take her last breath and it truly was a life experience Ill never forget.
Nana your now with all of our Angles watching down on us continuing to guide us in spirit. When i look to the moon ill always think of you.
I will love you always Nana

We would like to extend our most sincere condolences to Tio, Cookie and the rest of the family for the loss of Tia Cuca. Unfortunately, we are not able to be there, but please know that you are all in our thoughts, prayers and we're sending comforting hugs in this most difficult time.
Tia Cuca was a character. When asked how she and my Tio are doing, her response was “still kicking and I have him seated next to me like a good boy”; and let us not forget that laugh she would do afterwards!! I have comfort knowing that she has been reunited with Gramma Keta, her siblings and, all that preceded her.
We know that it is hard to say goodbye, but it is only for a while before we are reunited with our love ones. So, until we meet again, rest in paradise Tia.
Love Betty and Reggie
She’s in the sun,
the wind, the rain,
she’s in the air you
breathe with every
breath you take.
She sings a song
of hope and cheer,
there’s no more pain,
no more fear.
You’ll see her in
the clouds above,
hear her whisper
words of love.
You’ll be together
before long, until then
Listen for her song.

I am so very blessed to have shared a few life lessons from my Tia Cuca. Her love was tough and so very real. I recall walking into her Hillcrest Apt and always met with an abrazo. She has left her impression on my life that will live on through me and my children for generations to come. I am eternally grateful. Thank you Tia Cuca!!
Blessings to my Tio and primos.

My condolences to the Duarte family. So sorry for the passing of your dear, sweet, and beautiful, mother. I would always see her husband and her together, they were inseparable. I met them at the Villa Luna Apartments that is where we lived. She will truly be missed. I will keep the family in my prayers for God's comfort in this difficult moment.

Tia Cuca will long be remembered for her sense of humor, her commentaries during family discussion and her forever response when asked how she was doing "I am still kicking". Kicking she was, bright, sharp and most of all loving to her family and especially to her nephew Vincent and Lupe Luna. They were both raised with her and almost considered her a sister instead of a Tia. Tia Cuca recognized their feelings as they both continued to be at her side at all times during her life. Lupe became her caretaker and Vince always there there for her with meals and weekly phone calls.
She will be missed so very much as she was the only living sibling from a brother-sister family of 5. She will be remembered as the "Kicker" and "Fire Cracker" of the tios and tias being born on 4th of July.
Until we see her again, Tia Cuca you were the best, brought laughter into our lives and unmatched love to your nephews and nieces who adored you.
Rest in peace with the Angels.
