Hello Steve, Christine, Richard and Doug.
So sorry to hear of your Uncle Louie’s passing. I have so many memories of the family going back to 1953 the year my parents Manuel and Mary Gomes bought the prune and walnut orchard on Walnut Avenue. Your grandparents were so warm and welcoming to our family teaching them the orchard business. I loved cutting apricots in the shed along Pacheco Pass highway. Your Aunt Phyllis was,so special to us and would pinch my cheek as a loving greeting. Your Mom was a second mother to me. She was my confirmation sponsor when I was 12. I would stop by during my community college years and she would help me with school work, especially an essay I had to write on “To err is human to forgive is Devine” for my English class. She made the best scrambled eggs. She was so full of life and compliments to all our family. She called periodically over the years saying such nice things about all my family....I miss those calls. Uncle Louie was always so polite and kind hearted. I remember that he took my sister Rosemarie to San Francisco for dinner in the late 50’s Or early 60’s. He was very kind to my sister Bernadette. The last time I saw him was at Bernadett’s celebration of life. He could be seen at the restaurant at Casa de Fruta with his cousin Joe Zanger. Sad to see that generation end. Glad the Scaglione family continues farming and living on the Pacheco Pass. Take good care. Love, Kathleen Gomes Engelhardt

We knew Louie as "Primo" ... a beloved part of our holiday celebrations for 20 years. He will be remembered well as a gentle soul and gentleman with entertaining stories about life growing up on the Pacheco Pass and the laughter we shared. Several times a week, Primo stopped by for coffee on his way into town or Casa de Fruta. He always had candy in his pockets for the kids and he knew l enjoyed ginger and gingerbread, so he brought it by the bag full. l made a point of collecting flavorful teas and trying them out on Primo for his opinion. I'll remember our horseback rides going after cattle in the hills, deeper conversations, and a helpful hand. Cherished times, indeed ...
