Dear Gaggi,
It always warmed my heart to see you on our visits with Maria. You and your family embody the true meaning of love, acceptance and compassion. Rest peacefully knowing that your legacy continues in those you helped form and affect. Your presence and person will be sincerely missed, while your spirit lives on.
Much love-Rita, Bill and Emma (Emmita) Cecil

I miss you tatty :(
I’m not that great at saying things. To me you worn’t just a grandma but a second mother to me. You, mommy and papi raised me and Rebecca in our childhood with Lots of love. Even though our parents were living separate I was never lonely because the three of you were there for us even daddy though I’m sad to say I don’t remember a lot of childhood memories with daddy just some. Most of them were with you, papi and mommy.
When mommy passed I was and still am really sad but, knowing you were there gave me the strength to not be to sad, something like that I’m not sure how to put it to words. But seeing you leave made me twice as sad. But I know I’ll be fine. Even though you and mommy are not here physical you both are here spiritually watching over us all.

Dear Tia Lidia, I will always remember your smile, and that special laugh of yours! A memory I have of you with my mom Lilia Escobar, other sisters, and family members was when you all were playing burro (card game). You each had a fun time, while enjoying a few beverages. I distinctly remember my daughter Heath Marie (believe she was 12 or so) looking puzzled at me and asking "why are they all fighting?". Well I had to explain to her that you all were not fighting, that you are "Cubans and that's how they talk". I made sure she knew she didn't freak out by saying she was only 1/2 Cuban. This memory will always make me smile, you laugh and love always remembered! I love you Tia

Dear Gaggy,
Thank you for all that you’ve been to me, my Mami, my best friend. Your life gave me life.
I could always count on your unconditional love and understanding. You are a strong woman. I’ve always admired the way you were able to survive the deaths of Papi, Wilfred and Cary. I don’t even want to imagine the pain and sorrow you were feeling. My heart is broken. I miss you so much!
You and Papi are my heroes! In 1966 the two of you decided to leave Cuba, leaving family and friends behind not knowing when or if you would see them again, to give your children a better life in the United States. Thank you! You accomplished the “American Dream” without freebies or handouts, just hard work! I miss holding you!
Mami, you are the only person I know who has actually won a car playing Bingo at an Indian Casino! I loved taking you to Vegas! I remember taking you, Tia Ofelia and Tia Onelia to play Bingo at San Manuel, the three of you always had so much fun laughing and picking on one another, as siblings often do. I will miss hugging you!
Thank you for giving me a childhood full of family gatherings with the Tias and Primos, playing Burro, going to the Holquinero Club, taking me shopping in Huntington Park, Downey and Cerritos Mall and of course teaching me right from wrong. I remember sitting at the kitchen table helping you and Papi with receipts and paper work for the apartments. Thank for shaping my future!
Thank you for having more confidence in me than I had in myself. You told me I was ready to take the drivers test, when I kept on telling you I wasn’t. You drove me to the DMV, I was so nervous with sweaty hands, you were right, passed. Thank you for giving me the 1969 hard top Mustang.
Wish I still had it today!
From Cuba to Paicines, without hesitation, you, Shelly “The Jewel”and I left Camarillo and moved to the Ranch in Paicines. I consider myself fortunate to have had you living with me since Papi passed in 2002. You helped me raise Alexis and Chris. I thank God for such a wonderful gift.
You leave behind 4 grandchildren who absolutely adore you! You are loved and admired by your sisters, brother, nephews, nieces and dear friends.
I know you are in a better place. You will forever live in my heart! Te quiero mucho!
