Reading all the previously submitted tributes, I am struck how rare and beloved a human being Richard was. He was not only a beloved father, active in the lives of his family members and not only did he enrich the lives of those who pursued higher levels of achievement, he also brought out the best in me – a simple single mother who happens to love poetry, philosophy, art, religion and all manner of spiritual development. We began our relationship by writing letters to one another; he cleverly posed questions and allowed me to express myself in the honest and revealing ways few others have cared to hear. He made me feel he truly wanted to know me though I never felt worthy of his attention. We drifted apart, to my regret – I wish I had known he was ill and am sorry I wasn’t able to see him before he passed. It’s nearly two years now and like all of you, I am still in mourning. It is with a heart heavy with love and mourning that I express my ongoing condolences to all Richard’s loved ones. I can feel his presence when he comes around to check in on me, I can only imagine how much he remains connected to all of you.

In loving memory of Richard, who I had the privilege to witness as a Human who embraced life with dignity and recognized dignity in all fellow humans he encouraged and supported from their early life on: what a graceful legacy for so many now and in generations to follow.

Coach Dick is how I knew him. He brought me on his competitive team in Morgan Hill, when I was 11/12; so about 26 years ago. He saw talent in me that I didn't know I had and he brought me the opportunity to play travel soccer. Soccer taught me so much about life and introduced me to so many amazing, talented people, including Sergio Herrera. So much passion in both of them that they shared with us girls on the Orchard Valley Nightmares to Raptors. Playing soccer for Dick were some of the happiest moments of my life and I think about them often. It may have only been 6/7 years of my life, but they were formative years. He provided us with so many life experiences and you could tell he loved doing it. Wish I could have stayed connected with him over these years. Very grateful to be positively impacted by Coach Dick and to have him as a mentor during those years. Sending so much love to his family and friends. Big hugs to you all!!!!!

Over the years, Richard and I would cross paths and yes, it usually involved finding a place for kids to play soccer. Although it has been awhile since I spoke to Richard, my memory is very vivid of this kind, generous and soft spoken man. My sincere condolences to the Mussallem family at this very sad time. Richard made and left this world a better place.

Uncle Dick,
You were a deep heartfelt thinking human, father, brother, son, nephew, uncle and friend! A lifetime of beautiful memories will have to hold us gently while you move to the next realm. We will be looking for you and our loved ones as we travel the same path one day and I imagine us playing tennis (sports), singing songs, eating great meals, telling stories, laughing and speaking of our deep thoughts about life philosophies. You were a strong hearted person that captured our spirits and souls! I love you and your passion for life, family and great life experience!
This song from Joan Armatrading is a reminder of the love and connection we all shared with you!

lyrics:
It comes all shapes and sizes
It's something you can never buy
Don't wait until it's over
Before you say it's all been fun
Obituary columns are filled with love
Don't wait until I'm waving
And drowning in a sea of tears
It is too late tomorrow
Obituary columns are filled with love
Filled with love
If everybody said it to
The person that they feel it for
Then their heart
Would be full and free
It comes all shapes and sizes
It's something you can never buy
Don't wait
Don't wait…
Sending love and my deepest condolences to all those close to Dick. He was a real goodie!
