Muriel Caporaso

Obituary of Muriel M. Caporaso

Muriel M. Caporaso of Hollister, California passed away on Wednesday, February 13th, 2019 with her loving daughter and son-in-law by her side. She was born on November 20, 1923 in Seattle, Washington. Muriel was the younger of two daughters of Margaret and Carl Miller of Millbrae, California, the town where she grew up. She graduated from San Mateo High School.

Muriel lived her life with passion and a song in her heart. She had a delightful sense of humor that made her a joy to be around. Her favorite saying was, “count your blessings”. She often commented on how lucky she was to have found such a wonderful man, Navy Commander John “Cappy” Caporaso, with whom she shared a deep, lifelong love and marriage for 61 years.  They raised three beautiful daughters, the twins Daphne Higbee and Maureen Upton, and Candy Montgomery. She created a loving, supportive home while they lived in Hawaii, Washington D.C. and the San Francisco Bay area.

When her husband retired, they moved to Hollister where she spent 45 happy years among beloved neighbors and friends. She loved to entertain, tend to her garden, play golf, a game of cards, dance with Cappy or play the slots. She and Cappy enjoyed traveling around the world for over 50 years; visiting countless interesting countries and making new friends along the way. But her favorite place was with her family, be it in Hollister on the five acres or at Maureen’s cabin, or Candy’s home in Arizona.

Most of all, Muriel’s passion was painting. She was a talented, self-taught artist. Her paintings were colorful and happy, just like she was. She brought beauty to the world through her artwork. He paintings are treasured in the homes of her friends and family.

A lover of life, family and laughter, she leaves an empty space in our life. She will be deeply missed but her spirit will forever remain in our hearts.

Muriel was preceded in death by her husband, Cappy; her twin daughters Daphne Higbee and Maureen Upton and son-in-law Fred Upton; her parents Carl and Margaret Miller; and Charlotte Miller.

She is survived by her daughter Candy Montgomery and her husband Art Byerlein of Mesa, Arizona.

Her family will lay her to rest beside her beloved husband Cappy, at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery.
