Obituary of Stewart Young

Stewart K. Young peacefully entered Heaven surrounded by his loving family at his home in Hollister, CA on the morning of January 25, 2019.

Stewart Kelvin Young was born June 9, 1935 to Kelvin Stewart and Juanita Young in Athens, Ohio. In 1941 their family moved California so his father could work in the shipyards of Benicia. Stew was raised in Campbell, California and graduated from Campbell High School in 1954 where he excelled in basketball for the Buccaneers.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Stew attended San Jose City College and completed the IBEW Electrical Apprenticeship Program. He was employed by several large electrical contractors in San Jose who built Silicon Valley. He spent the last 7 years of his career as Assistant Business Manager for IBEW Local 332 Electrical Union.

Stew married his high-school sweetheart, Julie Gallagher and this past August they celebrated their 60^th anniversary.

Stew and Julie were blessed with three children: Peter Young, Michael Young (Laurie Hoppis) and Amy (Bill) Selfridge, 6 grandchildren: Danielle (Eric) Ash, Shayna (Tyler) Winslow, Dustin Young, Alicia Young, Mollie Selfridge and Zach Selfridge, and by 4 great grandchildren: Kalia and Cole Winslow, Gage and Jaxon Ash. He is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. His family was his pride and joy including a golden retriever always by his side. He was predeceased by older brother Peter Edison Young and son Peter Thomas Young.

Stew’s life was filled with camping, boating, RVing, traveling, “jeeping”, tinkering around his home and he was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed and shared his hobbies with his family and lifelong friends.

Stew always showed interest in living in a small community. So, after retirement in 1997, he and Julie moved to Hollister, CA and joined Ridgemark Golf & Country Club making more lifelong friends in the community.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 2nd, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Ridgemark Golf & Country Club, 3800 Airline Hwy., Hollister.
