Obituary of Viktoria Jean Minton

Viktoria Jean "Vickie" Minton passed away at her Holister residence on January 5th, 2019 at the age of 69 years.

Vicki Jean was born in Ohio but always called California "home".  She loved her adopted state and lived in the Big Sur, San Francisco and the Monterey areas throughout her adult life.  She also loved visiting with family and friends and enjoyed taking guests to the places that were most meaningful to her.   She would laughingly tell of her grandmothers last visit, when the 75 year old Baptist matriarch discovered Sushi, a very ultra-exotic food for a midwesterner.  She didn't tell her grandma exactly what Sushi was until after she had tried it and really, really liked it.  Vicki had a great sense of fun and willingness to explore new ideas, new cultures and new people.  She could throw herself into new experiences and could teach people to be bold and try new things. She and California were made for each other.

Growing up in Ohio, Vicki had a lot of responsibility and helped raise her 4 younger siblings. To all her siblings, Vicki was a beautiful, glamorous, exotic, big sister.  She made sure that her "chicks" were safe and on the right track in life.  No one in the world had the ability to laugh as often or as deeply as Vicki Jean and she had an unerring ability to make others laugh too.   The difficulty of her early life made her compassionate and she was attuned to suffering, always willing to help if she could.  Vicki was also passionate about her pets.  Her 4-footed family and the cause of animal welfare were important to her.  After helping raise a whole house full of human kids, Vicki chose to have fur babies and her love for them was great.

As a woman of particular beauty, Vicki was the center of attention and the "gem" of any gathering.  But she wasn't vain about it.  She loved to help her female friends with their "look."  She had the skill and ability to help anyone look their best and could make closet rummaging into a full day exploration.  All the women around her came out looking and feeling better after one of her special sessions.  And if she had a willing subject, the object of her beautifying could also find themselves with pink or purple hair...but only if it was the right look for them!

In the later years of her life, Vicki was surrounded by special friends.  She also found a spiritual home with Hollister Community Outreach and Our Father's Place.  She had recently been baptized, making a new commitment to the Lord and serving in her church as a deacon.  These people, as well as many un-named others deserve special recognition for their love and attention: Pastor Linda Lampe, Denise Barton FNP, Sophie, Monty Perry, Judd, Becky and Parker.  She also reconnected to her great-aunt Valinda Brady of Georgia.

Vicki is survived by her little sister Lisa. She is pre-deceased by sister Gina, brothers David and Billy, parents Betsy Dee Hughes and step dad William "Bill" Heins and her beloved, sweet and generous grandmother, Della Mae McQuillan Steiner.  May her soul rest now that her earthly life is done.
