Obituary of Fernando V. Vais

Fernando V. Vais was called home on September 5, 2018 at the age of 73.  Fernando was born in Faial, Azores on September 16, 1944 to Francisco and Maria Vais.  He moved to San Juan Bautista, Ca in 1969.  Fernando proudly served the Portuguese Army for 2 years in Angola, Africa.  Anyone that met Fernando knew he was a kind and gentle soul. He was dedicated to raising and supporting his family.  Fernando had a deep faith in God and only grew stronger during difficult times.  He always showed courage and strength.  Fernando was employed at the San Benito County Court House for over 20 years.  He was a devout member of Sacred Heart Parish and member of the S.D.E.S. Portuguese Lodge.

Fernando was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and loved to spend time with his granddaughters.  Fernando is survived by his wife of 48 years Maria Vais, his daughter Katherine Bedolla and son-n-law Charlie Bedolla.  His grandchildren, Abigail Bedolla, Makena Bedolla, Graycen Bedolla and CJ Bedolla.  He is also survived by his brother Frank Vieira (spouse Teresa), his sister-n-law Teresa Vais, Niece Tee Bonifacino (spouse Jim) and nephew Bill Souto (spouse Nancy).  Fernando was preceded in death by his brother Manual Vais (Hollister) and sister Maria Souto (Azores).  

Friends and family are invited to the rosary at 7 pm on Tuesday, September 11, 2018.  A Mass of Resurrection on Wednesday, September 12th at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Hollister followed by the burial at Calvary Cemetery Reception to follow the ceremony at the S.D.E.S. Portuguese Lodge.
