Obituary of Alfred Augustine Azevedo
Life-long Hollister resident, Alfred A. Azevedo, passed away in Hollister, California on February 5th, 2018 at the age of 88 years.
Alfred was born January 27th, 1930 to Augustine and Maria Azevedo of Maderia, Portugal. He was the youngest of 6 children.
He grew up working in the family orchard. At 17 years old, he purchased his first semi truck and received his commercial driver's license. Alfred began hauling apricots and prunes for his parents.
In 1955, he married Hazel Thompson. Soon after, they purchased property next to his parents and he started his own apricot orchard. When Alfred wasn't driving his semi truck or working in the orchards, he enjoyed riding his Harley, taking a Sunday drive, wood working, gardening, tinkering in his shop, dancing, traveling and spending time with his family and friends.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, 5 siblings; Mary Sequeira, Charles Azevedo, Oscar Azevedo, Eugene Azevedo and Elmer Azevedo; also his wife Hazel Thompson Azevedo.
He survived by his daughter Ann Azevedo of Hollister; nephew Gene Azevedo of Palm Springs; niece Judy Cabral of Cherry Valley; niece Gloria Souza of Hollister; great nephew Eric Souza of Hollister; niece Kathy Azevedo of Santa Maria; Joe Azevedo of Santa Maria; nephew Greg Walters of Salinas; nephew Del Walters of Redding; sister-in-law Ruth Hoag of Salinas and nephew Jerry Pfalzgraf of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, February 16th, 2018 at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow at the Portuguese Hall (S.D.E.S. Hall), 695 7th Street, Hollister.
