Obituary of Aurelia Maldonado

Please share a memory of Aurelia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Aurelia passed away at home on December 12, 2017, at the age of 87 after a short illness.  Aurelia was born in El Rosario, Nayarit, Mexico to Juan Monteon and Maria Guadalupe Machuca.  She grew up in Mexpan, Nayarit, Mexico and married Guillermo Maldonado with whom she had nine children.

Aurelia is survived by her nine children, Miguel Maldonado, Guadalupe Maldonado, Genoveva Muñoz, Gilberto Maldonado, Estela Shackelford, Sonia Dorado, Victor Maldonado , Guillermo Maldonado Jr., and Sara Maldonado, she is also survived by twenty five grandchidren, twenty six great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; six brothers and sisters: Sara Monteon, Gabriel Monteon, Ramon Monteon, Elisa Monteon, Jose Monteon and Emigdio Monteon; and, numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Guillermo Maldonado, her parents Juan Monteon and Guadalupe Machuca, her sister Guadalupe Monteon and her brother Juan Monteon Jr.

Aurelia was a warrior. She suffered a broken spine injury in a car accident 35 years prior to her death, which left her a paraplegic.  She suffered many injuries and illnesses, and uncountable number of hospital stays in the 35 years she was paralyzed.  She always maintained a strong, loving attitude towards life and was the most loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, mother-in-law and friend.

In 1963 Aurelia traveled from Nayarit, Mexico to the United States with six children to be reunited with her husband who lived in California, and arrived in Hollister where she gave birth to three more children, and lived out the rest of her life.

She worked in the local Tri-Valley cannery and in the fields for twenty years; was a farmer growing and drying apricots, and was a businesswoman at various flea markets, always a hard worker, great provider and family manager, doing all she could to help her husband support their family.  She leaves behind  many family values and traditions that will live on in her family.  She leaves behind a great void impossible to fill.

In faith we pray she is once again in the arms of her loving parents, walking by the hand of our Lord Jesus Christ, and enjoying her new home in heaven watching over her family forever.  No more pain, no more suffering!  We will miss her very much, but we thank God her suffering has ended.

Visitation will be on Sunday, December 17th from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm with the recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 pm

On Monday, December 18th, family and friends will meet at Sacred Heart Church at 11:00 am for a Mass of the Resurrection. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
