Obituary of Marilyn Root

Marilyn (Chris) Root passed away peacefully on August 7, 2017 at Mabie Northside in Hollister, California.

She was born on June 26, 1931 in Los Angeles, California, to Ed and Lola Menke.  In 1950 she married Charlie Root Jr., son of Chicago Cubs pitching great and San Benito County resident Charlie Root.  They lived in Southern California until 1960, when they moved to Hollister, and then Tres Pinos, to be close to the senior Roots.

While in Tres Pinos, Marilyn worked for George Kincaid at the Pinnacles Garage.  She and Charlie parted ways, and she moved back into Hollister and worked for many years at Churchill Nut Company.  She and Toni Churchill loved to travel together, especially on cruises.  After retiring from Churchill’s, she moved to Oregon and lived with her daughter, Carol.  While in Oregon she adopted a rescue long-haired dachshund, Callie, who was her beloved companion.

Marilyn is survived by her children, Kathy Hart (Jim) of Hollister, Charley Root of Monterey, and Carol Walker (Terry) of Newport, Oregon.  She is also survived by three grandchildren, Brian Hart, Jason Morejohn, and Lesley Blanton Root, and two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Valerie Hart.

She is also survived by her adopted family at Mabie Northside, who loved and cared for her.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Hazel Hawkins Hospital Foundation for use at Mabie Northside, either directly or in care of the mortuary.

Per her wishes, there will be no services.
