Obituary of Mary Louise Demos

Mary Louise Demos passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on January 2, 2025 in Hollister, California. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Alvin B. Demos, parents Luigi and Angelina Vigna, brothers Joseph Vigna, Anthony Vigna and sister Rose Vigna-Maranian. Mary was born in Santa Clara County on March 22, 1933. She was a graduate of San Benito High School and graduated in 1951. Mary worked at Hollister National Bank as a secretary after graduating high school. She continued working in banking for 37 years. Upon graduation she continued to be active on the San Benito High School Class Reunion Committee helping to organize and coordinate many successful reunions. She was one of the 5 class members who remained living today from her class. Mary was a devout Catholic and her faith was a very important part of her life. She was an active member of The Sacred Heart-Saint Benedict’s Community as well as a volunteer at The Pastoral Center for many years as an administrative secretary. She also participated in the Catholic Church Small Faith Group on a regular basis. She supported numerous Catholic charitable organizations. She enjoyed traveling to Europe and especially loved Italy and all the small country towns of the different regions. Cruising the Danube River from Neurenburg to Budapest was an exceptionally fun trip, meeting many people and making new friends. Favorite pastimes of Mary and her husband Al were the numerous trips to Reno for entertainment. Mary was a great homemaker and loved to cook her delicious dishes for her family and friends. She had a passion for growing beautiful flowers and always had fresh Italian romano beans, tomatoes and zucchini during the summer months from her vegetable garden. Mary is survived by her sister Angie Baker of Hollister, sisters-in-law Jean Vigna of Anaheim and Erma Jean Vigna of Hollister, nephew Dennis Baker of San Diego, nieces Julie Ann and Nancy Lynn Vigna of Hollister, Denise Baker of La Crescenta, grandnephew Jason Baker of San Diego, nephew Leon Gregory of Santa Cruz and niece Eleanor O’Connor of Petaluma. Surviving her are also many cousins from Italy, Massachusetts and California. Reverend Father Rudy will perform mass at Saint Benedict Church in Hollister on January 15, 2025 at 11a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association and Pet Friends in Hollister.
