Thinking back over the years and remembering the day you became a member of our family. So long ago. You were there for it all, the weddings, childbirths, Sunday dinners and 49er games at Mom and Dad's, weekends at the Sanden ranch and so much more. Joe, you were a great and honorable husband to my sister, a loving and generous father, fun Uncle and a fabulous and devoted Grandfather and Great Grandfather. You were there for the good times, sicknesses and the losses. I am grateful to have had you as my loving and loyal brother-in-law. In the years going forward, your name will be mentioned often and the memory of all the good qualities you had will be cherished. You were courageous til the end. Love you, Jules

Joe became a valuable part of the Smith family 61 years ago when he married my sister Sharyn and became my brother- in-law.
He was selfless and eager to lend a hand wherever needed. Whether helping a relative, neighbor, co-worker or chasing down a stray dog in a parking lot he was truly a man for others. Joe possessed a quiet strength that I greatly admired.
Even though you have left us physically we will continue to feel your presence and be forever grateful for the years we had with you.
Love you always, Sam
