William “Bill” Augustus Regentz III, born June 11, 1931, in San Mateo, California at the Old Mills Hospital, to Dorothy and William Regentz II, passed away peacefully in his home, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and community. A viewing will be held at Grunnagle Funeral home on Friday October 18th from 3:00 - 7:00 pm with the Rosary beginning at 5:00 pm. The funeral will be held at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church on October 19th at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with reception to follow. Grunnagle’s will be handling funeral arrangements. Bill was raised in Sebastopol, CA, and attended Analy High School and has called San Benito County his home for the last 60 years. He graduated from the Maritime Academy, served as a dedicated police officer for the Los Altos Police Department, Mountain View Police Department, and the California Highway Patrol. He married Gloria Avidano, with whom he raised five beautiful daughters. Bill was proud of his Irish heritage, which he celebrated throughout his life. Bill was a member of the Elks Lodge, The Gourmet Club, and enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and dancing. For 48 years, he owned and operated Dunneville Market and Cafe, where he was known as the "Dean of Tri Tip University." His passion for bringing people together through food was matched only by his love for the Old West, with a fondness for John Wayne and Clint Eastwood films. Bill was also known for his appreciation of a fine scotch whiskey and his remarkable sense of humor. His witty character and joyful spirit will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Bill is survived by his loving family and countless friends who cherish the memories they shared with him. He is survived by his five daughters—Cynthia, Diana, Annette, Sharon, and Laura—along with his sixteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
