Obituary of Sarah Mary Herbert

Sarah Mary Herbert was born on December 14, 1942, in Martinez, CA. She died on September 27, 2024, after a brave struggle with many health issues these past two years. Sarah is survived by her siblings, Pat Herbert of Hollister, Catherine (Kitty)Herbert of Hollister, and Joe Herbert of Fair Oaks, CA, along with many dear nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Philip V. Herbert and Rosemary McNamee Herbert, Her older brother, Philip C. Herbert died in 2022 and her niece Jennifer Herbert died in 2023. Sarah graduated from Notre Dame College in Belmont, CA in 1964, her studies in Biochemistry continued to an MA at Georgetown University and a PhD at the University of Colorado, Boulder, She pursued her postgraduate research at Purdue University. From there she taught chemistry at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY. Returning to Hollister to help her elderly mother she finished her working years bookkeeping for her brother's ranch. She was a member of Sacred Heart/ St. Benedict parish and a proud member of the Young Ladies' Institute #172. An AVID bridge player she hosted a card party last week with 2 of her college friends, and a good time was had by all. Funeral mass will be held and celebrated on October 30, 2024, at St Benedict Church in Hollister at 11:00 am. A reception will immediately follow at the St Benedict hall.
