Obituary of Oliver Berti

Oliver Berti May 25, 1930 – January 25, 2024 Oliver Berti passed away on January 25, 2024, after a lengthy illness. He was born to Rinaldo and Frances (Goglione) Berti on May 25, 1930, in San Francisco, CA. The family moved to Hollister several years later after purchasing an apricot orchard on Barnheisel Road where Oliver worked by his fathers’ side from a young age. He attended Ausymas School and graduated from San Benito High School in 1949. He established many lifelong friendships during this time. After attending college Oliver went to work for Bank of America but he soon found his true calling as an independent businessman. He owned and operated several successful business’ in the San Jose area including a grocery store, a liquor store and a Foster Freeze. He invested in several real estate projects and the stock market for many years. In 1972 he married Jean Filice of Hollister, and they resided in the Willow Glen area of San Jose. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. In 1986 they moved to Ridgemark CC, sadly Jean passed away unexpectedly the following year. Oliver is survived by his close friend and cousin Barbara Winn of Hollister and her son Michael Winn, her daughter Kathy Diaz (Eric) and her daughter Colleen Lucas (Ron) and their children Nathan and Travis Winn, Eric Jr. and Derek Diaz, Anthony, Andre and Gianno Lucas and her 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Kay Filice and his nephews Anthony, Patrick (Marjorie) and Christopher (Kristin) Filice and their families. The family wishes to thank his caregivers for the last seven years Martha and Maria. Oliver loved children and enjoyed spending time with them, prior to his illness he could always find time to help out his loved ones when they needed him, he thoroughly enjoyed driving the kids to school or events when their parents were busy. In addition to his wife Jean, he was predeceased by his parents Rinaldo and Frances, his mother-in-law Rose Filice and his brother-in-law Charles “Chuck” Filice. Oliver became a Freemason in 1952, 33 rd degree, Scottish Rite. Per his wishes there will be no services, his cremated remains will be entombed with his wife Jean Filice Berti at Calvary Cemetery, Hollister.
