Obituary of Anthony "Tony" Caputo
From the greatest generation to have ever lived; Our Father, Anthony Peter Caputo, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2023 at 101 & 1/2 yrs of age. He was born in San Jose, Calif. to Italian immigrants Pietro and Giuseppina Caputo where he prospered as a young man. Tony attended San Jose Technical High School, leaving at the age of 14 to work full time for his brother Dan, who went on as a General Engineering & Building Contractor to handle building roads, bridges, and sewers. Tony enlisted in the Navy Seabees (C.B. Construction Battalion) during WWII, serving two tours in Guadacanal and in Okinawa. Upon returning from the Service he became Superintendent for
Brother Dan Caputo Co. in San Jose, a company that was responsible for many of the Bridges, overpasses, and roads that make up the fabric of the Bay Area. He was especially proud of the award-winning Eugene A. Doran Memorial Bridge in Crystal Springs.
In 1949 Tony married his young love, Virginia Jane Toste and together raised four children in the Willow Glen area - Sandy, Toni Jane, Peter, and Terri. Amongst them there were 9 grandchildren, Adam, Sarah, Lindsay, Gina, Jasen, Andrew, Jailena, Casey and Shaylynn, and Blessed with 10 beautiful great-grand children. Tony and Virginia eventually moved South to
Tres Pinos, Calf. near his ranch in Paicines and started raising a small herd of Angus Cattle. Tony will be remembered as a World traveler traveling to most continents visiting Livestock ranches with the Western Livestock Journal., an avid 49’er Faithful Fan since 1946 enjoying games at Kezar, Candlestick & Levi Stadiums, an avid fisherman and hunter, a builder, a proud Italian American attending meetings/dinners at The Tricarico Social Club in San Jose. In 2018 Tony was on the Honor Flight to Washington DC, 1 of 4 WWII Vets. Amongst a plane full of Veteran Honorees. Tony loved the challenge the stock market presented to him, Family dinners, and the Outdoors. He is preceded in death by his wife Virginia, his son-in laws Bill Renz and Ben Beam, and his granddaughter Sarah Williams.
We welcome friends and family to his Service which will be held on:
Tuesday, November 7, 2023 10:00 am at Lima Family, 466 N. Winchester Blvd., Santa Clara to be followed by burial and reception.
