We moved to Hollister in 2003. We had the pleasure of sharing our backyard fence with Delores. We talked frequently over the fence and occasionally gave her some tomatoes from our garden. We will miss her. The Kizer family.

Dolores was a lot of things to a lot of people. Wife, mother, sister, grandma, great grandma, mother-in-law, aunt & friend. To me, she was my role model and mother in law.
Where to start.... She has taught me so much and I have a lifetime of memories with her.
These are the lessons that stand out...
Me as a fist time mom doesn't need to leave her a detailed list on how to care for my baby girl. As she gently reminded me, she was a nurse for 40+ yrs., mother of 4 and at the time grandmother to 7.
Giving ice cream to my children in the bathtub is multi-tasking. They're going to get sticky anyways, they will be easier to clean this way.
Giving sick grandkids a bedside bell is a necessity. Grandma was only a "ring" away!
Don't be in such a hurry to leave the dinner table, the dishes can wait. She could sit at the table for hours and just talk.
Even if you're afraid to do something, TRY. You don't want to miss out on family memories.
Lipstick and jewelry are a necessity. Where bright colors.
I actually taught her this one, don't drink Long Island Ice Teas like Kool-Aid. Sip them and enjoy!
The memories that stand out...
As a family we had many day trips, vacations and holidays. I learned early on the Perry family like to do everything together! We will even see how many of us can sleep in the same room. I have great memories with Dolores such as, water-skiing trips to the 4 bay, houseboat trips to Shasta, family time at the Russian River, ski trips to Bear Valley, an Alaskan Cruise, trips to Mexico, wine tasting, Pismo Beach, Lake Tahoe and so much more.
My favorite memory was at Bear Valley, on the ski lift. Both of us weren't coordinated enough to maneuver our skis and poles and get off the lift. So, we decided we would stay on the lift until we were brave enough to get off. After a few times around they stopped the lift and made us get off. We thought finally the chairs have STOPPED; we can do this! There wasn't an easy way down. So, I found a short cut, but to get there I had to push her over a snowbank, we were both laughing the entire time. While this is going on Scott is wondering what happened to us. He went back up the hill and found us. He waived down a ski patrol and Dolores rode down the hill on a snow mobile with a very handsome man. I was left there to make it down the hill on my own!
We were on a family trip to Mexico. We went to eco park that had ziplines and waterslides. Not wanting to miss out she joined in the activities; she was 86 at the time. She did well on the ziplines, but the waterslide was a bit much for her. There was a gentleman that worked there and saw she was uneasy. He offered to take her to a rest area in the park. He promised us she would be ok. When we finished the ride, he was there to meet us. He took us to Dolores who was in a hammock enjoying a margarita. She had a great time!
For her daughter's birthday all the girls that were of age went to a drag show in San Francisco. We arrived in a limo, had a great dinner and enjoyed the show. Dolores was commenting on how beautiful the girls in the show were, I assumed she knew what type of show we were seeing. Well, she didn't, once she was explained they were men she was very curious on how they looked so womanly. She was very impressed with them!
This past Memorial Day weekend we went camping in Felton. It was a family trip with ages 1 to 98. Dolores not wanting to be left out decided that she was going to walk down to the creek with everyone. The creek was a steep 20 feet down with steps built into the side. With some help from Mark [he gave her a piggyback ride], she got all the way down there and sat and watched her great grandchildren play in the water. I thought she was nuts; I was in awe of her!
Dolores was a lucky woman; she has a tight knit family who loves her fiercely. She would do anything for them and they for her. Up until about 9 months ago she still lived alone in her home. The decision was made that she would take turns staying at her kids' homes during the week, but she would stay at her house on the weekends. When she would come to our house, she would come in pulling her little red suitcase, yelling I'm home! She slept in my daughter's room that has bunk beds. The first few nights she stayed with us I would sleep on the top bunk. I wanted to be there in case she needed me. I would freak her out because I kept looking down at her, she would open her eyes and there would be my face! She would say, stop staring at me while I'm sleeping and laugh, I couldn't help it!
Dolores thank you for the love and laughter

Condolences to the whole Perry Family. Dolores was a wonderful lady. Darryl and I were not family (by blood) but she always treated us with such kindness.

My grandma was truly a phenomenal woman. She lived life to the fullest and left behind a legacy of love. She lived for family and adored her friends. She was the glue that held our family together through good and bad times. She never stopped evolving as a human being and even became a little tech savvy. I could always talk about anything and everything with her while we played games and snacked on food. She took pride in her home and her yard and absolutely loved her rose bushes. She is someone I truly look up to and aspire to be. I consider anyone lucky who had the chance of knowing, meeting, or just passing by her, that's how special she was to me. She is our families matriarch and will always be remembered and loved. My grandma had such an explosive personality and could be very feisty at times, lol! Grandma, I love you muy mucho and you will always be in my thoughts and in my heart. You lived, laughed and loved for 99 years and now you can finally rest knowing you had no regrets and that you lived life to the fullest.
