MIEL MARTOIN WAS MY CAPTIAN AT BEAR VALLY. BITTER WATER HELI ATTACK, HE PULLED MY BUTT A COUPLE OF TIMES WHEN HE WAS CAPTAIN AT ANTELOPE STATION. HE WAS ALWAYS THERE TO HELP OR ASSIST ANY FIRE FIGHTER WITH ANY PROBLEM.
WE ALL HAVE SO MANY GREAT MEMORYS OF MIKEL.
HE NEVER ASKED OR EXPECTED ANY FIRE FIGHTER TO DO ANYTHING HE WAS'NT WILLING TO DO HIM SELF

I’ll start out by saying, I’ve known Mikel for 53 years… We met in high school and hung out every day and weekends together. We lived and ate at each other’s houses.
We were best friends!
I have so many funny and amazing stories that could fill a book or two… maybe four!.
On the crazy side… Mikel and I would race our Mustangs on Highway 17, at 3 am in the morning from The Cats in Los Gatos, to the Scott’s Valley exit and try to break our 7 minutes and 3 seconds record. This was before all the barriers were installed… and yes, we did cut the corners to shave off some time. To this day, every time I drive over Highway 17… I think of Mikel and smile, and wonder how we made it this far in life after some of the stupid stuff we did together.
I will miss him and miss his call every May 10th, wishing me a happy birthday!
Mikel was a lifelong friend…I’ll miss you mate!

Mikel, you were one of the best Capt's I ever worked with, especially when we were both stationed at Antelope fire station. You saved my butt on that fire, I will never forget that. You never asked a Fire Fighter to do anything that you would'nt do or had'nt done your self. We all loved & respected you. R.I.P my friend

Q: How did you meet Mikel?
A: Met Mike when the new Rio Road Station was almost completed in the early 70’s. Our careers intertwined though out the years and always enjoyed working with him. Enjoyed our chats on Facebook and I’ll truly miss him.

I am saddened at the loss of Mikel. My condolences to family and friends who hold Mikel dear. I am the granddaughter of May Martin Norwood and daughter of Linda Peterson Newton. Mikel would be my 2nd cousin. I met Mikel through Ancestry when I posted a picture of his father Lorne that May his sister had from years ago. Prayers of peace and light to all.

I send my condolences to Mike's family and friends. I am Mikel's first cousin. My mother. May Martin Norwood, and his Father, Lorne Martin are sister and brother. My heart is broken, since Mikel and I were born in Pontiac Michigan just days apart. Our families would get together when we were young, and we spent many days together. Now, we both live in California and have seen each other over the years since 1976 when I lived in Salinas and Prunedale. I had not spoken to him since 2021. Rest in Peace Dear Cousin. You will be missed.
