Josefina “Josie” Tabancay, of Hollister, Ca, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on February 16, 2023, at the age of 71.
Josefina was born on March 19, 1952 to Lucrecia and Teofilo Quemquem in Batac, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. She graduated Cum Laude with the batch of 1969 from Ilocos Norte Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. She received a Master of Science in Agriculture from Mariano Marcos State University and worked as an agriculturist from 1973-1997.
In 1974, she married the love of her life, Silvestre Tabancay. Their children are: Leah, Leo, Lucille, Sanjay and Siljeff.
They moved to Hollister, Ca. to find a better life and join Silvestre’s Family in 1997. Josie worked as a caregiver at Whispering Pines for 12 years and as a dedicated researcher at United Genetics for 25 years.
Josie was a kind, loving, and generous person. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren who held a special place in her heart. She was hard-working and loved to stay busy, but always made time to stay connected with her friends and family all over the world.
Josefina is predeceased by her beautiful granddaughter, Vea Riana Mendoza, her brother, Manuel Quemquem, and her sister, Liwliwa Isaguirre. She is survived by her husband, Silvestre Tabancay; children: Leah and Von, Leo and Genet, Lucille and John, Sanjay and Kari, and Siljeff and Sheila; grandchildren: Scheherazade, Glen and Marvin, Leaon and Silea, Nathan and Elijah, and Greyson and Oliver; brother Ernesto Quemquem; sister Estrella Lagat; and many nieces and nephews.
There is a viewing at Grunnagle Funeral Home on Sunday, February 26, 2023, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM with a rosary prayer at 5:30 PM.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 1200 Fairview Rd. Hollister, CA on Monday, February 27, 2023, at 11:00 AM.
