Obituary of Arthur Ross Borges

Arthur Ross Borges passed away on January 14, 2023 at the age of 91. Born in Manhattan, he moved to Hollister with his family at the age of 3, before moving to Bristol, RI at the age of 7. In 1946, at the age of 15, his family moved back to Hollister and he lived out the rest of his life here. Art was the oldest of four boys born to Anthony & Rose Borges, who preceded him in death, along with his brothers Frank & John Borges. In 1951 Art married the love of his life, Violet Felice, daughter of Pete & Isabel Felice. He was best known in Hollister in the '50s & '60s as the local Foremost Milkman, back in the day when milk ,eggs and cheese were delivered straight to your front door. He also worked for many years at Shelton Industries, building campers, travel trailers and motorhomes before moving on to Semi-Fab Semiconductors. Art also served in the National Guard from January 1949 to January 1957, and one of his regrets was that he had to leave high school prior to graduating, to help his father support the family. It bothered him that he did not receive his diploma, so at the age of 58 he went back to school, attending night classes to earn his GED. In his retirement years, he assumed part-time work as a bus driver for San Tran, Jovenes de Antaño and Pinnacles National Park. He was also a dealer for Fuller Brush and Watkins Products, where he enjoyed meeting up with his customers. Art was definitely known as a friendly face to all. Art & Violet raised three boys and enjoyed dancing, going on family vacations and attending sporting events. In the '60s and '70s, Art & Violet loved square dancing, and belonged to the Mission Mixers Dance Club in San Juan Bautista. Art was very supportive of his boys, and never missed their Little League, Babe Ruth or slow-pitch baseball games. The Borges' also enjoyed taking summer vacations to Southern California, where they would regularly visit Disneyland, Universal Studios, Hollywood and other local attractions where memories were made and cherished. They were also avid fans of the San Francisco Giants, and attended countless games at Candlestick Park. Art & Violet greatly enjoyed bus trips to Reno & Tahoe for gambling, and one of his favorite pastimes was manning the barbecue while listening to his favorite band The Mavericks on his CD player. Art would never miss a good flea market or swap meet, and enjoyed them in his later years with sons Bill & Tim. One of his favorite daily routines was working out at Rovella's Gym, and he continued to do so through his late 80's. Art is survived by his wife of 72 years, Violet, and his sons Bob (Kristie) Borges of Utah, Bill Borges and Tim (Susie Costa) Borges of Hollister; grandchildren Robert and Krista Borges, great-grandchildren Kadin & Tarin, and brother Joe Borges of Sonora, CA. Art's memorial service was private, but his family hopes to have a celebration of life gathering in the Spring.
