Obituary of Eugene Mayhorn

Please share a memory of Eugene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Eugene “Mark” Mayhorn was 86 when he passed away peacefully at home, in Hollister, on January 31, 2023. Mark, as he was lovingly known, was born to Nela Rita Arnao and Osgood Samuel Kemp, on August 4, 1936, in Key West, Florida. Mark lived in many places throughout his life. His father was in the Airforce and moved the family with each change of station… from Florida to Maine, New York to California, finally setting down roots in Roswell, New Mexico. Mark graduated from Roswell High School before enlisting in the Navy with the goal to see the world. And, see the world he did! The Navy took Mark to Japan, the Philippines and Korea during the Korean War. Mark met his wife Kathy (Kate) Mayer in San Jose in 1979. The couple married in March of 1984. Together, Mark and Kate moved to Hollister where they owned and operated a mortgage business for nearly thirty years. Hollister quickly became Mark’s forever home. He was active in the community participating in the Rotary Club, the Gabilan Chapter of Kinship Center, and the Board of Realtors. After retiring, Mark enjoyed pouring wine at the local wineries. This was a perfect fit for Mark, as his wit was unsurpassed. As soon as you met him, he had you rolling with laughter. He was an avid sports fan and loved to cheer on his beloved Giants and Niners. Mark loved to travel near and far but was especially fond of the mountains and the ocean. He loved old movies and was a film noire connoisseur. Mark is survived by his loving wife, Kate and son and daughter-in-law, Cole and Nicole Berggren, granddaughter, Mena, siblings, Andrea Brandt and Ralph Q. Mayhorn, in-laws, Lynn Grimes and Michael Hutchinson, nieces, Summer Talent and Erin Sloan. Mark was predeceased by his parents, Rita and Ralph, and daughter, Meghan, and his loving dog, Rusty. Services will be held at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Family Funeral Home & Crematory at 11am on Friday, February 17, 2023, reception to follow. Goodbye, sweet Moe, Funny Man, Mr. Moon, Markie, Marcus Welby, Sparkey… Genie.
