Obituary of Doris Schmidt

On Friday, November 25th, 2022, Doris Ann Schmidt passed away peacefully in her Hollister home at the age of 96. Doris Ann was born in Deerfield, Wisconsin, on May 14, 1926, to her parents Herman Thompson and Ida Gerstner Thompson. Shortly after her birth her father died. Her mother remarried to Albert F. Heiking who raised her as his own. Doris traveled to California with friends and had a stop-over in King City, CA where she met her future husband, Joseph “Joe” W. Schmidt. They made their first home in King City and moved to Hollister in 1950, where they raised their sons. Doris enjoyed baking, gardening, and volunteering. Desserts were her specialty, and everyone had their favorite. But nothing could top her enjoyment of watching her sons and grandchildren participate in their sporting activities. She never missed a game to show her support. Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Schmidt, parents Albert and Ida Heiking, her sisters Lillian West and Joan Halverson and brother Leslie Thompson. She is survived by sons, Brooks Schmidt (Cheri), Randy Schmidt, and Terry Schmidt (Debbie Thul). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Blake Schmidt, Kate Barry (Raphael), Allison Schmidt, and Austin Schmidt (Jessica), as well as many nieces, nephews, and Wisconsin family. Private cremation will be followed by private family interment.
