Obituary of Barbara Marie Recalde

Barbara Marie Recalde passed away peacefully at home on November 22, 2022, at the age of 83, in Hollister, California. Nana Barb to her grandchildren and their friends. Barbara was born in Hollister, California to Eugene Klauer and Pearl Johnson on September 14, 1939. She attended local schools graduating from San Benito High School in 1957 and went back to school at age 59 and received her AA degree. In 1957, Barbara married Arnold Recalde and moved to the family ranch in Panoche Valley. She was a leader for the Panoche Pioneer 4-H Club teaching cooking and gardening. She enjoyed her friends and neighbors and always had a pot of coffee and cookies ready for them when they would visit. After a divorce in 1984, Barbara moved back to Hollister to begin a new chapter of her life. Barbara worked for many years and retired from Vegetable Grower Supply in Salinas at age 70. She considered her fellow employees as family. She loved to travel. Some of her favorite trips were her annual trip to Yosemite with her grandchildren. Barbara and her sister also traveled to Maui many times. Barbara enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, gardening, sitting on her front porch with her dear neighbors and her daily walk. She was always in search of a new nursery, “Because you never know what you may find.” Her favorite activity was eagerly watching her grandchildren’s football games, track meets, water polo games and swim meets at her alma mater, San Benito High School. Barbara is preceded in death by her father, Eugene William Klauer, mother, Pearl Johnson Klauer, daughter, Laurie Flint and brother, Eugene Martin Klauer. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Liz (Brian) Smith, son, Andy Recalde, sister, Mary Bennett, Salinas, grandchildren, Natalie (Seth) Cunningham, San Antonio, Aaron Smith, Beaverton, and Ryan Recalde, Petaluma. Barbara is also survived by her 12 nieces and nephews, their spouses, children, and grandchildren. Her family is grateful for her compassionate and loving caregivers Rosalia, Christina, Mari, Veida and Blanca. A very special thank you to Vanessa at Majestic Hospice. Services will be held December 9, 2022, at Immaculate Conception Church , Tres Pinos, CA at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Parkinson’s Foundation, Parkinson.org or a favorite charity.
