Obituary of Nenette Marie Corotto
Nenette Marie Corotto passed away on October 8th. 2022 at the age of 86 years, in Hollister California, at her home peacefully with family by her side after a long illness.
Nenette was born in Hollister, CA to Marie Louise Rondy and Leon J. Latapie on July 17, 1936. Nenette spent her early life living in Hollister where she helped with the family business, the Model French Laundry. She attended Fremont and R.O. Hardin Grammar Schools. Her favorite pet was her horse “Rusty” that her parents gave her for her 8 th grade graduation. She loved horses and riding her whole life. She was also a Jobs Daughter and member of the Episcopal Church. She was a Cheerleader for the San Benito Joint Union High School. She left to attend University of California, Davis pursuing her B.A. in Home Economics with the goal of becoming a High School Teacher, but chose a different path her senior year and left to attend Heald’s Business College. After graduation from Heald’s Business College, she moved to Los Angeles and worked as an Executive Secretary for an advertising agency on Wilshire Blvd.
She returned to Hollister and met Donald Corotto whom she married at Sacred Heart Church on May 21 st in 1961. They worked as self-employed Orchardists operating Angoustures and Corotto orchards, the Storm Ranch and Rancho De La Llanada for most of their lives. A very hard-working person, she also worked as an Executive Secretary for the Keystone Seed Company and for 30+ years, Nenette was known as the Administrative Assistant to the Commissioner of Public Works.
She was very involved in her community throughout the years. She converted to Catholicism when she married and was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tres Pinos,CA for 63 years and helped with annual Fundraiser Chicken BBQ by continuing the family tradition of decorating for the annual event. She was the Southside 4-H Club leader teaching children public speaking, sewing, and cooking skills. She was a very active parent and volunteer in Southside Elementary School and a Trustee for many years. She was a founding board member of Community Foundation of San Benito County, worked on the first Vision San Benito Project, a past Farm Bureau Director, and a member of San Benito Cattlewomen. She was an active member and officer for the Northern California Lhasa Apso Club for many years and enjoyed going to Specialty Shows and showing her Lhasa Apsos Ch. Tara-Mi O’Rumtek’s Kan Yu “Blaze” and Kan Yu Light Mi Fire “Hades” in California, Oregon, and Nevada. Her constant companion for the majority of her retirement was her faithful Lhasa Apso “Dusty” who you would often
see hanging out of her truck window on his way to the ranch. Nenette was an extraordinary cook and would often host large family holiday dinners and was famous for her pastry. She enjoyed using the pomegranate, apricots, and plums she grew to make jams and jellies. She loved to garden and often in her retired years would be seen mowing, hoeing, and trimming her yards. She and her husband Donald were members of the local Hollister Dance Club. Many a weekend they spent dancing the night away during those years. Nenette was a talented tap-dancer and played the piano well.
Nenette was preceded in death by her husband Donald H. Corotto, parents; Marie Louise Rondy Brown and Leon J. Latapie, step-father ; Lt. Col. Conrad Brown; brothers-in-law; Robert and Loren Corotto. Nenette is survived by her children; Nancy Corotto Wilcox and Christopher D. Corotto, Grandson Ashton Wilcox, sister Jacqueline Latapie Gomes of Morgan Hill CA, Brother-in-law Allen F. Corotto of San Francisco, CA, sister-in-law Barbara Haney Corotto of Napa CA, nieces and nephews Stephen Gomes and Todd (Mirka) Gomes of Morgan Hill, Anna Corotto (Brent) Bird of Lafayette, Loren V. Corotto of Napa, CA, Ellen Corotto (Steve) Seiler of Lafayette, CA, Hilary Corotto (Richard) Glass of Walnut Creek, CA, Claire Corotto (Jeff) Mallett of Napa and Woodside CA.
Great Nieces and Nephews are Tara and Tyler Gomes, Sofia and Eva Gomes, Isiah Bird, Rachel (Jake) Glass Adler, Amelia, and Robert Glass, Anthony, Daniel and Natalie Seiler, Victoria (Jake) Corotto Rachleff, and Amber Mallett.
Funeral Services will be held as follows:
October 19 th Visitation/Viewing: 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the Rosary at 6 pm at Grunnagle-Ament- Nelson Funeral Home, 870 San Benito Street, Hollister, CA
October 20 th Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Tres Pinos Immaculate Conception Church, Tres Pinos, CA with Internment following at Mausoleum Chapel interior east side, Calvary Cemetery, Hollister, CA
