John was a great man. Always generous. Quiet, humble, and kind. John was a couple of years older than me. I am a veteran and John was kind enough to share with me his experience during the Vietnam War. He was a good man. Be thou at Peace. May it be said Well Done.

What an honor it was to know this amazing Gentleman…He was one of the best in our County and irreplaceable in our hearts..The legacy he has left and the example for all the local business owners to live up to is not probably something any of us can attain. Hard work, honesty and always going that extra 100 miles was his creed and he did it every day. We loved you John and until we meet again at that awesome McKinnon Lumber in heaven..rest easy knowing you were one of the great ones!

I can’t remember a time when I would see John and he didn’t have a smile plus a hug for me. He was always asking what he could do for me and then tell me how I could do it cheaper. He was truly a one of a kind man and I with miss him greatly. All my love and prayers to the Barrett Family, John will never be forgotten…

I had the honor of knowing John and I will always remember his corny jokes he used to tell me when I would go to the lumber yard. There is a big void in the City of Hollister. I met John over 20 years ago when I first moved here my boyfriend would frequent the lumber yard and then I would go to get scrap wood for my fire pit or come and pick up the scrap pieces of plywood that he would put aside for me for my woodworking projects. John was also kind courteous and he loved what he did. His son Brian also very kind and courteous and his employees all of whom we're also courteous and would always help me with anything I needed. I know everyone will miss him John I thank you for your contributions to the City of Hollister I thank you for your service & I thank you for being my friend I will miss you. My condolences to the family may God bless you all at this time.
I made this cross in memory of you John. Rest in peace in that big lumber yard in the sky.

The Barrett and Lausten Families have been close and family since the 1950's. The loss of John has been like losing a brother. Over the past several years I had the privilege and pleasure of playing Pedro with John and Charlotte. John has been a pillar in San Benito County community. His kindness and generosity touched so many people. I will miss our bantering. His presence at the Saddle Horse Show was a given. He was a proud Veteran serving his country. My sincere condolences to Jean, Brian, Diane and Charlotte and Janis . Love all of you and God Bless.
