Obituary of Mary Lee Recht
Mary Lee Recht passed from this earth on April 18, 2022 at the age of 87 here in Hollister, CA.
Starting her childhood in Keota, OK and moving across the country to Hollister early on during WWII, she found a home in a small friendly town. Her mother, Ruby worked diligently and even opened a downtown diner that survived the exiting “Wild Ones” gathering in ’47.
After graduating from the local high school, she went on to work at the old Brown & Chappell Company, near K&S Market. She had a friendly smile to greet each customer that never altered. There she also had the opportunity to meet the love of her life, a dashing, fresh out of the military young man, who took her hand and soon betrothed, moving on to the family ranch together. There she spent the remainder of her life, raising two boys and cherishing multiple grandchildren.
Aside from a nurturing home and being a firm steward to the land and its practices, she always made time for others, offering a patient ear, some tea or soda and time that made you feel you mattered; this, along with always a kind word and genuine warmth, made her house, a home.
She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Norman and son, David. She is survived by her youngest son, Daniel, her daughter-in-law, Irene, and grandchild, Baron; her grandson, Stanley and his children; granddaughter, Misty and her children; and her goddaughter, Vairette.
There will be a graveside service for Mary Lee on April 28th at 1pm, arranged by Grunnagle Funeral Home and held at the IOOF Cemetery, 600 Buena Vista Rd, Hollister.
