Obituary of Isabel Greer

Isabel (Betty) Greer was born, in Hollister, on July 12, 1927 to Spanish immigrants, Ramon and Raphaela Horcajo. She held her family heritage and faith close to her heart. Betty was one of five children who were raised in Hollister. She loved her siblings and had long lasting friendships with her sisters Mary Perry, Carmen Morgan, Gabriella Avery and her big brother John Horcajo. Together they raised their families and solidified a strong Spaniard bond among their children. Betty married Claire Greer on September 18, 1947. They raised their children together in various parts of California before settling back in San Benito County. They were married for 61 years until Claire’s death in 2009. After she raised her own family, Betty began working at the local nursing home. She was a caregiver by nature and it translated in all she did. She was proud to have worked outside the home, and spoke fondly of her time there. As time went on, Betty and Claire found themselves as empty nesters. They traveled the USA and finally settled down at San Benito Thousand Trails. There they could be found playing horseshoes, winning Skip-Bo tournaments, dancing away on Friday nights at the lodge as well as entertaining their very large group of Grandchildren and Great-grands. Nana was her title and she wore it well. She knew each grandchild’s birthdate. She was proud to tell you she even had Great-great grandchildren. She made each of them feel special with a crocheted blanket at birth and pajamas each Christmas. Betty was 94 years young when she joined the angels in Heaven on February 18, 2022. She is survived by her children Steve Greer (Louise), Janice Tomasello (Tom), Mike Greer (Janis), Bob Greer (Vivian) and Patty Marfia (John). She was preceded in death by her husband Claire Greer and their infant son Kenny Greer. Betty leaves behind a treasury of afghans and catchy Spanish nursery rhymes, songs, and memories of her subtle sense of humor for her posterity to pass on for generations to come. She was a devoted Wife, and loving Mother, Nana, Sister, Aunt and Friend. She will be missed dearly and thought of with love and admiration. A private burial and celebration of life will take place at a later date.
