Obituary of Ruth Juanita Tittel
Ruth Tittel, 94, passed away peacefully at her home to meet her Lord and family on August 6th, 2016. Ruth had battled dementia and Alzheimer's for the past several years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray, her son Ron, and her two sisters, Lucille and Bernice. She is survived by her daughter Rita Hutchinson, two
nephews Larry Hendrickson and Michael Whelan and two nieces Yvette Stark and Brenda Reichuber.
Ruth was born in Haviland, KS on November 19th, 1921. She was the middle sister and always the peace maker. She went to work at Woolworth's in Great Bend when she was 15 years old. Ruth was very active at Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend, and met Ray there while in the church choir. She married Raymond Tittel on June 9th, 1940.
Besides raising their two children, her and her husband Ray traveled throughout the country owning and managing various businesses; grocery stores in Kansas, and a ranch in Colorado. Together they moved to Alaska where Ruth worked for Montgomery Ward and the Alaskan pipeline. After Ray passed away, Ruth went on to manage apartments and retirement centers in Las Vegas and California.
Ruth was an outgoing, gregarious woman who loved to travel and help people. When her mother became ill, she moved to Great Bend, KS to care for her until her death. When Bea's husband died, she went to live with her in Newton, KS to help raise her sister's daughter, Yvette. Ruth was an animal lover, and enjoyed taking her dogs on car rides and walks to visit with her neighbors in Hollister, California, where she moved to be with her daughter Rita. She loved to talk and she never met a stranger. Ruth's laugh was infectious. Her family couldn't help but chuckle when she would get together with
her sisters Lucille and Bea, and listen to see which sister could outtalk the other one!
Her interests included her church activities, her family and friends, her dogs, traveling, and she loved to shop, especially for shoes. Ruth was loved by all and will be missed dearly. May she rest in peace.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your church or charity of your choice.
As per her wishes, she has been interred with her husband in Great Bend Cemetery, in Kansas.
A graveside ceremony was held on October 15th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Services were conducted by Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, Kansas
