Please share a memory of Prospero to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Prospero G. Canela passed away November 1, 2021 in Hollister, with his family by his side, at the age of 86. Prospero was originally from Los Reyes, Michoacan, Mexico and came to Hollister over 46 years ago. He was the son of Prospero Canela and Angelina Garcia. He was married to Elvia Barajas Canela for more than 45 years. They had 10 children, 7 boys and 3 girls. Sergio; Jaime; Maria; Martin; Agustin; Mario; Ricardo; Sandra; Norma; and Samuel Canela. He also had 26 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Prospero was the youngest of three siblings. He has many nieces and nephews. His favorite hobby was spending time taking care of his fruit trees at home and his vegetable garden. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren and making them his famous carnitas in his style. He also enjoyed spending time with his wife accompanying her to the casinos before her passing in 2010. In the summer when his children were young, he enjoyed taking them to the river, also at Christmas time he liked to drive to Mexico and take his whole family to spend the holidays. He was a member of the UFW Union, always a farm worker, and was employed with Bertuccio and Bob Moore in Hollister, and many other places. Prospero will be forever remembered by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
