I was a client of Dave's and became friends over a period of time. He was well known for bringing Rose to work. Rose was his mother's poodle that he cared for after the mom passed. Everybody liked Dave and his poodle! I will never forget his smile and laugh when he brought out his ukulele at work so he could practice when it was slow. And his eye lid surgery! He was so giving and kind. He was so special and I will never forget him. I did not have the chance to say good bye.
My condolences to his brother Steve and entire family. RIP

It's already been noted by "the cousins" that our times together were rare, but special. To think of Dave is to think of grandparents and holidays and other family occasions. And each was a mix of ages, regions, and experiences that created many memories to cherish... even more as time goes on! Dave had stories of sailing and work and California sunshine that were different, and always interesting, to us Midwesterners. His smile and easygoing manner were contagious, and just may be the things I remember most. Dave's illness and death seemed to come quickly for those of us who live far away and get updates in small doses, but to Steve and Nancy I am sure it was not. Thanks for all you did for Dave, Know that you remain in our thoughts and prayers. Gary

Dave and I didn't have many things in common, he lived on the west coast , loved sailing, and his profession. I am a land locked Midwest farm girl. But we shared one very beautiful thing, family. We spent time together at our Grandparents house whenever they returned for a visit . Those are wonderful memories. And there are memories from their visit to our farm. I only wish we had been able to make some more memories. I am so thankful for his place in my family tree.

David was a wonderful cousin. I always enjoyed seeing him when in the Bay Area and visiting Lois. He was selfless, yet would share about his experiences with life and work. I appreciate his zest for life and tender spirit. He will be missed.

As a cousin living 2000 miles away in Minneapolis I have not had the pleasure of enjoying Dave's companionship as much as I would have liked. These past couple weeks looking at old photo albums the happiness of seeing Dave and Steve visiting our grandparents in St. Paul returns along with memories of wonderful humor and smiles. I cannot speak of Dave's likes and dislikes, his favorite or least favorite activities when away from St. Paul visits or upon leaving his office at the end of the day, because, sadly, I just do not know what they may have been. What I do know is how gracious and enthusiastic Dave and Steve were to my wife Sue and I when we visited Aunt Lois and Uncle Don in the 1980s – and were treated with a glorious sailboat cruise in the Bay. I wish everyone could see the photograph I have of Dave raising the sails, arms stretched up, shirt tails flapping, totally focused eyes behind those sunglasses. Dave's cancer arrived so suddenly and his passing too soon. For those who seek rhyme or reason to such of life's mysteries may they also embrace the blessings of sharing the experience of knowing a friend and a cousin as special and unique as Dave Bareilles.
