Obituary of Freda Mai McCarter

Freda McCarter passed away at her place of residence Wednesday August 25, 2021 in Hollister, CA at the age of 93. A mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, Tres Pinos, CA at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday September 2, 2021. Cremation arrangements will be handled by Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Family Funeral Home. Her ashes will be sent to Niebur Funeral Home, Pittsfield, Illinois for final internment in the McCarter Family plot. Born in Pittsfield, Illinois, the nineth child of a family of twelve children. Freda moved to California and was employed by California State Automobile Association (AAA) for 37 years. During that time, she broke “the glass ceiling” by becoming a District Manager, serving several locations before settling in Hollister and moving to Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in 1976. She became involved in many local business organizations, was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, served as eucharistic minister, member of the altar society and volunteered at Hazel Hawkins Hospital. Freda enjoyed golf, snow skiing, the San Jose Symphony, Ballet and Opera. She especially loved traveling far and wide, to include all 50 States, Mexico and Baja, Canada and many trips to Europe including England, Scotland, Wales, Greece and her beloved Italy and Ireland. She is survived by her brother Thomas Richard McCarter and sister-in-law Lee Test McCarter of Griggsville, Illinois as well as many nieces and nephews, whom she loved very much. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Roy and Ellen Cecilia Doyle-McCarter, brothers John Roy, Charles Marcus, Vernor Earl, Eugene Doyle, Joseph James, Merle Edward, Carl William, sisters Mary Rose, Elizabeth Ellen, Helen Marie, her sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
