Obituary of Melzoria Elizabeth Gomes

Melzoria E. Gomes passed away on July 14, 2021 in Monterey, California. Mel was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Susie Slay; her husband Leonard Gomes; and her daughter Nancy Orlando Bravo. Melzoria (Mel) was born on April 30, 1933 to Frank Slay and Susie (Davis) Slay. She moved to Salinas, CA when she was very young then at 15 years old she made Hollister, CA her home. Mel attended Gavilan College and earned her cosmetology license. She had a long career in the Food & Beverage Industry working at Cadamartori’s in San Juan Bautista, Paines and Ridgemark, in Hollister. She loved to travel, which included taking cruises to Australia, New Zealand and Mexico and spent many summers at Disneyland with her family. She also enjoyed golf, shopping and above all, spending time with her family. She was a member of the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club. Mel is survived by her two daughters; Cheryl Orlando Rieger (Ralph) and Denise Orlando Garcia (Rich); stepdaughter Lee Ann Heers (Dick); son-in-law Bill Bravo, brother-in-law David Gomes (Gale); grandchildren: Brandon (Esther), Roger, Erin, Julie, Briana, Alison, Haley (Josh), Ashley, Allison (Cory), and Amy (Clayton); 10 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to Central Coast VNA & Hospice in care of the mortuary. Visitation/Viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 from 10am-1pm at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home. Entombment will be private at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
