Peter Sandholdt

Obituary of Peter Wood Sandholdt

Please share a memory of Peter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Beloved father, grandfather, husband, and automotive enthusiast, Peter Sandholdt passed away on September 6, 2023, at the age of 79 following a sudden and aggressive battle with cancer. A lifelong resident of the Monterey Peninsula, Peter had a passion for automobiles and racing, which he turned into a career of Carrera’s! Trained at the Porsche factory in Stuttgart, Germany, Peter became one of the most sought-after Porsche mechanics in the area, both on and off the racetrack. From Wester Porsche + Audi to Laguna Seca in the ‘60’s and ‘70’s, all the way to his home garage in 2023, Peter did what he loved: diagnosing and repairing Porsches. When not in the shop, Peter was at the racetrack or automotive shows. As a driver, a crew chief, or just a plain fan, he attended nearly every event at Laguna Seca since its opening in 1957. He’s won his class at the Concourse with his Porsche 914-6 and loved attending all of the historic and reunion events. He proudly wore his 50 Year PCA pin while educating car owners about the history of their vehicles; many of which he personally worked on. Outside of the engine compartment, Peter cherished walking the dogs (Maddie and Scooby) and spending time with his family and friends. Nothing better than a barbecue pool party and playing cornhole with the sounds of The Rolling Stones in the background. Peter is survived by his lovely wife Sue, five children, and ten grandchildren shared between the Duran, Haslam, Leist, and Sandholdt families; not to mention his endless list of grateful customers! Peter is now reunited with Maddie and Scooby for that eternal walk around the raceway.
