Obituary of Harry Forbes Jr.
A resident of Hollister, Califomia, formerly of San Jose, California. Passed
away at his home from stroke complications at the age of 93 with his
beloved wife, Bertha, at his side. Harry, along with his 5 siblings, Richard,
Don, Earl, Donna and Robert (Butch), were born in North Dakota to Harry
and Evelyn Forbes. The family moved to San Jose, California and, after
graduating from high school. He joined the Army during WWII where he
honorably served in Japan and the Philippines until the end or the war.
Harry was an excellent baseball player and was scouted by the Philadelphia
Phillies. He was invited to their training camp for try-outs. However, due
to poor weather and family commitments, he eventually had to return to San
Jose to go to work to support his family and his dream of becoming a
professional baseball player ended.
Harry went to work in the trades as a millman/moulding maker for Chiem
Lumber Company and elected to be a business representative for the
Carpenters and Millman Union, then to Mission City I .umber Company
where he retired.
Harry and Bertha moved to the quite town of Hollister in 1988, where they
enjoyed playing golf together and spending time with friends and family.
Harry is survived by his caring wife, Bertha, sons Jeff (Paulette) of Salem,
Oregon; Randy (Lesley) of San Jose, California; daughter Cheryl (Herb) of
Salem, Oregon; grandchildren, Jody, Jeff Jr., Casey, Kristophcr and Kevin;
great-grandchildren, Adrianna, Ayden, Makara, Olese, Kaleb, and his newest
great-granddaughter, Nellie.
Services will be held Sunday, May 5, 2019, at 1 :00 pm, at the Funeral Home
of Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson in Hollister, California, with gathering to
follow.
