Emilio Casillas Obituary
Emilio was 95 years old and is the son of the late Carmen and Julian Casillas both from Spain and lived his whole life in Hollister, CA. Emilio was married to Patsey Shedden (deceased in 2022) in 1957 and they had two children, the late James Julian and his surviving daughter Anne Casillas of Hollister. As well as his two nephews and niece Linda Regan Kubota (Dave) (2016) ( Bobby Regan (2021) and Patrick Regan (Kris) who came to live with them in the 70’s.
He was preceded in death by all his brothers: Julian Jr (Betty), Manuel (Helen), Joe (Lillian), Frank (Joyce), Sister Mary (Sam) who lives in Hollister still, Paul (Kathy), Eddie (Debbie). He has many nieces and nephews from both his side of his Casillas family as well as from Pat’s relatives, all of whom he enjoyed seeing grow and go on to have kids of their own. His favorite visitors while still at home were Rob (Erin) Regan and Averi (Tanner) Ramos and their collective 5 kids: Ward, Bobby Jo, Dot, Koe and Sonora! Living to see Ward, Bobby Jo and Koe made his day every time they visited!
Emilio served in the Army during the last years of the Korean War and then came home and started farming with his 4 brothers. They farmed for many decades until their retirement and in the 70’s he and his wife Pat came to be the executors of Pat and Kay Regans 3 cattle ranches upon their deaths until their children could take over. Being a rancher was always his favorite, but he also enjoyed farming still and would often tell wild stories to his caretakers at Mabie’s Southside of cattle ranching, good horses and farming for over 40 years! He and his brothers would also enjoy BBQ for brandings, cooking for multiple service organizations around Hollister. And even once traveling to the San Francisco Bay area with his long-time childhood friend Frank Medina, to cook a roasted pig for a bunch of posh city folks, while the two of them told tall tales to their unsuspecting audience. But his favorite past time was helping all his fellow ranchers and family at branding time and with a BBQ afterwards. Riding in the hills on horseback or roping calves was one of his happiest places to be.
Emilio’s Family would like to give Thanks to all the dedicated staff at Mabie Southside who treated him with such kindness and loving care. And to his private caregivers at the end, Alma, Erika and Adriana! You three ladies held it all together with love and grace. We are forever in your debt. Anne
