Our wonderful son and brother, Michael Edward Canez, passed away in Hollister on May 11, 2026. He was 22 years old.

Michael filled our lives with laughter and adventure. He was born May 14, 2003. As a child he was always the first one up and was ready for anything. He especially loved singing, dancing and spending time with his family. He brought such joy and laughter to our home. As he got older, playing baseball became his passion. He loved everything about the game - the days on the field, traveling to different cities for tournaments with his dad and papa, and most of all the friendships he built with his teammates. After high school, he discovered a love for golf while playing with his dad. He always looked forward to days spent out on the green.

Music was a constant part of Michael’s life. You would often hear him playing the piano and guitar at our home, and he was always singing throughout the house. He made an unforgettable cup of coffee and happily took on the role of barista during many gatherings with family and friends. Michael had a love for pizza like no other. Family game nights, playing video games and spending time with our dogs were some of his favorite things.

Michael had the kindest heart, gave the best hugs, and had a smile that could light up any room. His infectious spirit and the joy he brought to others will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Michael is preceded in death by two of his most favorite people; his “Papa” Michael Sullens and “Grandpa” Manuel Canez.

He is survived by his parents Eddie and Julie Canez, and his sister, Kinsey Evangeline. He leaves behind his “Grandma” Clara Canez and his “Nana” Pat Sullens who he loved so very much along with many loving family members and dear friends who will cherish his memory always.

Private cremation will be followed by a private internment at St. Benedict’s Columbarium.

Memorial donations may be given to Monterey Bay Aquarium and Monterey SPCA, in memory of Michael Edward Canez.
